Stanley  Murphy
Stanley Murphy, 59, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Bronson Battle Creek with his family by his side.
Stanley was born on July 21, 1958, the son of George Wyatt and Anna (Pruitt) Butler. Stanley attended and graduated from Battle Creek Public Schools. At one time he was employed by Binderpark Zoo in the city of Battle Creek. He relocated to Fort Wayne, IN where he was employed by Walker's international, as a Robotic Technician among many other jobs in the city of Fort Wayne, IN. His last employment found him working in a place he loved, Alaska! In Alaska, he enjoyed working on fishing boats brining in crab, lobster and fish until he became ill and had to relocate to Battle Creek. While in Fort Wayne, IN Stanley met the love of his life Paula Wilson, the two married on July 31, 1993 in Fort Wayne, IN. The union ended in divorce.
Stanley loved all things DETROIT SPORTS! He was an avid Detroit Tigers, Lions and Pistons fan and followed them through good years and bad. Stanley's favorite sports idol was the boxing champ simply known as the Greatest, Muhamad Ali. Stanley could often be found sitting quietly engaging in one of his favorite pass times, reading the local and Detroit Free Press newspapers. Stanley was definitely old school when it came to his love for music. His favorite artists were the Chi-Lites, the Dramatics, the Four Tops, the Temptations and all things 1960's R&B. Stanley was articulate and stylish, he was always well groomed and his manner of dress was always impeccable. Nothing but the best accessories for his wardrobe, to include stylish hats, ties, shoes etc. He loved to shop for nice shirts, slacks and suit jackets. He perused many a garage sale, thrift shops where ever he could find a bargain. He especially loved the Dollar Stores! Stanley was a wonderful son to his mother, a great, great brother to his sisters and brothers, a fantastic Uncle to his nieces and nephews and a loyal friend to the end. He was a very loving person whose love still powerfully resonates in the hearts, and minds and memories of those he has left behind. Stanley will be greatly missed by all who loved him and were fortunate to have met or crossed his path!
Stanley is survived by his mother Anna L. Pruitt Butler, Two Sisters, Brenda Murphy of Battle Creek, MI, Laurie J. (Edward) Butler-Harris of Battle Creek, MI; Two Brothers, Archie (Valeri) Murphy, Robert (Zayda) Butler; Special nephews Lawn Phillips, Edward Harris III and Peter Harris. Special nieces Dinisha Philips, Kyrah Phillips, Rayanna Smith, Brenda Harris, Karyn Harris and Alisha Smith. Three Special Friends, Calvin Cotton, Ken Atchison and Opha Carroll; He was preceded in death by his father George Wyatt, big brother Frankie E. Murphy, nephew Franlin L. Smith Jr., Grandmother Array Pruitt and Grandfather Dolvert E. Pruitt.
Stanley was a member of St. Mark C.M.E. Church where he loved working in the kitchen and being a help to the pastor whenever needed. His favorite dish to pass for any church pot luck or activity was green beans and ham hocks. Stanley was an excellent cook, he could cook most anything from liver and onions, Mac and cheese, homemade donuts and he made the best sweet cornbread!!
Visitation will be held at St Mark's C.M.E Church, 59 Illinois Street on Saturday September 9, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the St Mark's C.M.E Church, 59 Illinois Street, on Saturday, September 9, 2017, 1:00 pm with Rev Dr. William H. Bell Jr. of St. Mark's C.M.E. Church officiating.
Interment will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
