Suvernia “Bay” Hightower went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 10, 2022, with her son by her side. Born Maybell Williams in McKamie, Arkansas on February 17, 1939 as the youngest of nine children to her parents Charles and Tennessee (Randall) Williams, she was affectionately known as the baby of the family. She accepted Christ at an early age and committed her life to serving the Lord though various works.
She moved from her home in Arkansas to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1950 where she worked at E.W. Bliss until retirement. In her retirement she continued serving her community in her work as an election poll worker and as a beloved lunch lady at Lincoln elementary school.
She loved to fish, listen to gospel music, sing in the church choir at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she was a longstanding member, travel, shop, watch her stories, and most importantly spend time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Jewell (Spearmint) Grant, Walter (Edna) Williams, Annie Mae (Madrow) Wyrick, Fannie Mae (Harry) Johnson, Florida “Huddie” (O.D.) Wyrick, Carnet “Boy Blue” Taylor, Charlie T. (Judith) Williams, Beulah (Allen) Johnson, and Lenzy (Bow Gennie) Williams, daughter, Brenda Kay Hightower, grandson Eric Hopkins Sr., and granddaughter Maya Hopkins.
