William Bruce Baines, 76, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born on August 31, 1943, the son of Lester and Elsa (Martin) Baines.
Bruce attended Battle Creek Public Schools. He honorably and proudly served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Silver Star medals. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Bruce was an over-the-road truck driver for many years and eventually retired from driving bus in 2011.
Bruce is survived by his Three Children, Matthew (Lisa ) Baines, Mark Crow, Micki (Michael) Adkins; 9 Grandchildren; Brother, Robert Baines; Former Spouse and Dear Friend, Lydia Baines. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Son, Tony Baines, Sister, Virginia Holt and Brother, Joseph Baines.
Bruce loved to ride motorcycles and was known as an excellent mechanic by his friends and family. In his younger years Bruce loved racing cars, run drag cars at Martin Speedway, and watch NASCAR. He enjoyed spending his time at Speeds in Urbandale, playing cards, twice a day, several days a week.
A memorial service to celebrate Bruce's life will be announced at a later date.
Interment will take place in the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
