William Wade Lofton, 91, of Battle Creek, MI transitioned on May 18, 2023. He was born February 8, 1932, to Charles Esther Lofton and Mamie Powell Fant in Oakland, Mississippi. In 1950, William served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He worked for the Veterans Administration and successfully retired. William oftentimes worked two or three additional jobs while working at the Veterans Administration. He learned how to do complete home improvements and repairs while performing carpentry services for many homeowners in Battle Creek. He faithfully sent his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren birthday cards each year.
William was a loving and devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather who is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shelia E. Lofton, daughters Hattie, Helen, Maxine, Vanessa, Darlene and stepdaughter Nakita (Steve) Hollis; son, Ricky Lofton and stepson, Demetrius Borders; 31 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the Old McDonalds Retired Veteran’s crew. William was preceded in death by his parents; his children Sevelta (Cheryl) Lofton Sr., Veronica Lofton, and Kenneth Lofton; granddaughter, Carla Lofton and grandsons Darren Tyshawn Fraley, Kenneth Lofton Jr. Siblings Jimmy (Willie Mae) Clark, Vernon (Mary Nesbitt) Clark, M.T. (Lena Mae) Fant, and Charles E. Lofton.
Family Hour will be held at the Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 11:00 to 12:00 pm with the celebration of life service to follow at 12:00 pm (noon).
William will be laid to rest at the Fort Custer National Cemetery following the celebration of life.
