Obituary for Sarah Elizabeth Dyer

Sarah Elizabeth Dyer, 92, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on Monday March 26, 2018 peacefully at her home after a battle with cancer. Sarah was born January 6th 1926 in Battle Creek, Michigan, and was a 1944 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. After Sarah graduated she moved west and resided in Oakland, California where she worked for the United States Government, and later moved back to Battle Creek. Sarah married the love of her life Leon Dyer on August 18th 1949. They were married for 57 years; Leon Dyer preceded her in death in 2007. Sarah worked for the Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center for over thirty years and retired in 1981.

Aunt Sarah, as she was called by many, lived each day as a precious gift from god, loved to work in her yard and plant flowers, enjoyed a good laugh especially when she would visit with family in California and often with friends and family on her front porch with a nice cold Pepsi. In her early years she was a member of Saint Mark C.M.E.Church and later became a devoted member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for 25 years.

She is survived by her sister Willa Mae Johnson of Oakland, California and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Hobbs Sr. and Carrie (Finley) Hobbs, sister, Erma McGinnis of Battle Creek, Michigan, brothers, William “Bill” Hobbs Jr. of St. Paul, Minnesota and Albert Hobbs of Seattle, Washington.
