Alberta Reese, 93, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born in Oxford, Mississippi on September 18, 1922, the daughter of Andrew Williams and Savannah (Henderson) Williams.
When an infant, Alberta's family moved North to Indiana subsequently to Chicago where she grew up attending schools and graduating from Morgan Park High School.
Alberta was brought up a Christian, very actively engaged at Beth Eden Baptist Church in Morgan Park. In 1946, she moved to Battle Creek with her husband Norman Reese. She and her children maintained regular participation in worship activities at Second Baptist Church (then on East Michigan Avenue). After many years at Second Baptist, she was baptized and continued serving God as a Jehovah's Witness.
Alberta was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, but was employed for a time at Kellogg's in the factory, Battle Creek Community Hospital as a ward clerk for four and a half years and Stouffer Hotel as a PBX telephone operator. For a few years, she was very happily employed as caregiver for the Clanahan children often sharing with her family the delights of her days with them. Alberta was an avid sports fan and loved watching baseball on TV. She enjoyed exercising, including long walks, skating and gardening.
Organizational affiliations include the A.R.C. of Battle Creek, Burnham Brook Center and intermittently Weight Watchers. She was very proud when she reached her new goals.
Alberta is survived by her Daughters: Madeline Carroll Vazquez-Morris of Battle Creek, MI & Maricopa, AZ and Sandra Renee' Reese of Battle Creek, MI; 5 Grandchildren: Brian Keith, Thomas Jerome Jr, Michael, Marcel and Victoria;
3 Great Grandchildren: Dominic, Taylor and Talaha; Sister: Theresa Williams of Robbins, IL; Daughter-in-Law: Marlene Reese of Battle Creek, MI; Sister-in-Law: Charlotte Williams of Morgan Park, IL and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her Parents; her Husband: Norman Reese (1976); Son: Thomas Jerome Reese, Sr.; Sisters: Gertrude Robinson and Dorothy Jones; Brothers: Ulysses Williams, Perry Lucious Williams, Homer Williams, Hubert Williams, Clarence Williams and Andrew Williams.
