Obituary for Carolyn Elizabeth Otis (Heck)

Carolyn E. Otis passed away peacefully on April 19, 2013. She was born April 20, 1933, the daughter of the late Gladys I. (Michaels) and Frederick W. Heck. At the young age of 18 years old she was a phone operator with Chesapeke Potomac Company. She met Gene John Otis, a Navy corpsman, in Virginia. They were married on December 27, 1952. Between the years of 1966-1969 Carolyn was a shipfitter at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and helped build Apollo 11 Space Craft which landed on the moon in 1969. She was later employed with the Michigan Employment Security Commission, working 21 years as an Unemployment Claims worker.

She enjoyed playing slot machines at the casino, traveling and new adventures. Most of all she loved her family. Carolyn is survived by her son, Raymond (Barbara) Otis; daughter, Paula (Phillip) Kohlhaas, Susan (Edward) Neser; grandchildren, Michelle (Michael) Harris, Raymond Otis III, Brooke (Michael) Scudder, Megan (Chad) VandePanne, Katie Neser, Laura Neser; great- grand children, Allison Otis, Jack Scudder, Emma Scudder, Gage VandePanne; nieces, Linda Lu (Bill) Griffin and Elaine Heck. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years; parents; twin brother, Carol Heck who passed shortly after birth; brothers, William Heck, Clemence Heck; and sister, Lois Goetz.
