DeeAnn Kay  Cabbett
DeAnn “Dee” Kay (Wrate) Cabbett, 69, of Battle Creek, Mich., passed away on June 18, 2017 surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. She was born on March 8, 1948 in Battle Creek, Mich., to David and Audrey (Herrick) Wrate. She is survived by her husband Dan Cabbett of Battle Creek; daughters: JoDee (Westerman) and Mike Overfield, Weslaco, TX; Jacki (Gresly) and Randy Gaytan, Athens, GA; sons: Phil and Maryon Westerman, McAllen, TX; Nicholas Westerman, Denver Colorado; Sisters: Nancy (Wrate) and Jeb Krigel of Charlottesville, VA; Deb (Wrate) Dunson of Columbus, OH; Father: David Wrate of Battle Creek, MI; daughter-in-law Babette Westerman of Missouri; step-daughter Michelle of Florida grandchildren: Cameron, Dane, Isaac, Delina, Maddison, Brendon, Staton, Nolan, Reagan, Jessica, Jerimiah, Treggan, Rayna, Lorenzo and Joaquin; nephews and niece: Jason, Eric and Abbey. She was proceeded in death by her mother Audrey and son Vincent Westerman.
Dee attended Battle Creek Academy Class of 1966. She worked as a Rural Letter Carrier at the Battle Creek Post Office for 30 years. She recently worked at Walmart in the meat department. Dee enjoyed being involved in the Leila Follies, the Battle Creek Civic Theater, Battle Creek Ski Club, Battle Creek Balloon Club, and the Sunset Cruisers for many years. Her passions included doing puzzles, sewing, gardening, dancing, singing, skiing, hot air ballooning and spending time with her family. Some of her favorite things to do were traveling to Northern Michigan and to different Corvette car shows with her husband. Dee was a life-time member of the National Corvette Club and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #298.
