Obituary for Gerald LeRoy Hamlin

Gerald LeRoy Hamlin
Skeet was born August 30, 1931, the second of 7 children to Clair and Helen (Keeler) Hamlin in Battle Creek, Michigan. He attended Battle Creek schools. Skeet worked at small jobs and on farms, caring for his siblings. At age 18 he started work at the Oliver Company 1950-1962, Clark Equipment Company 1964-1987 as a welder and the Battle Creek Federal Center as a pipefitter 1988-1995. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War 1952-1954. He was discharged as Staff Sergeant receiving a Commendation Medal.
Skeet and Dixie Wolfe were married in Alma, Michigan, July 21, 1957. Three sons were born to them in less than 4 years; Jeff, Ned, and Billy. He and Dixie traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Alaska but his favorite was the western states. They also made 2 trips to Israel. He built his own home, mostly by himself. Skeet enjoyed hunting deer, moose, and caribou, making several trips to the Upper Peninsula, and Canada. He bagged 2 moose and 2 caribou.
Most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren, teaching them how to live, making jokes and loving them.
Skeet will be missed by his 5:00 AM Pennfield McDonalds buddies- Dave, Bud, Don, Richard, Larry, Dan and any others who stopped by to shoot jokes at each other.
Surviving are his wife Dixie and sons: Jeff (Gail), Ned (Tyreese) both of Battle Creek, Billy "Will" (Brenda) of Leroy Township: a former daughter-in-law, Connie; 7 grandchildren: Rebekah, Caleb, Hannah, Micah, Maacah, Allison and Levi and 10 Great Grandchildren; sisters; Lois, Barbara, Janet, Joyce and brother Robert. He was preceded by his parents and brother Clair "Gene".
Skeet will always be remembered as the guy everyone wanted to be around, because no matter how he felt, he could always cheer them up and make them laugh.
He was a member of Fairfax Community Baptist Church.
