Hazel Viola Harris, 103, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Laurels of Bedford. She was born on April 18, 1912, in Marion, IN., the daughter of Alonzo Grant and Ella (Watkins) Grant and moved to Battle Creek at an early age.
Hazel graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. She was employed at Altrusa Day Care for several years. Hazel was a member of civic and social groups in Battle Creek. She was an active member of Mt.Zion AME Church for many years.
Surviving is Daughter, Constance (Connie) Gray of Battle Creek, MI; Grandchildren, Cynthia Rodriguez and Stephanie Thomas of Kentwood, MI, Thomas Green of Los Angeles, CA, Tyrone and Mark Green of Memphis, TN, Christopher Green of Jackson, MI; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; Sister, Octavia Grant of Galesburg, MI; sister-in-law, Mabel Grant of Battle Creek, MI; Daughter-in-laws, Diane Smith of Memphis, TN, and Rosetta Green of Jackson, MI; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents and Son, Thomas (Tommy) Green; Brother, Alonzo Grant and John (Blanche) Grant; Sisters, Lucille Dozier, Isabella Collins, and Anita Jackson, sisters-in-law, Jane Grant and Pauline Harris and two nephews. She was also proceeded in death by her husbands Harold E. Green and Walter C. Harris.
She loved and enjoyed being with her family, friends and her Mt. Zion AME Church family.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion AME Church, 364 W. Van Buren St. Friday July 31, 2015 at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12 noon with Rev. Douglas Banks officiating.
Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
