Hervia  Lee  Smith
Hervia “Herb” Lee Smith, age 56, of Battle Creek, MI passed away Friday November 11, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 06, 1960, in Indianola, MS, the youngest of 12 siblings, born to the late Tom and Louise Smith. Herb was a member of New Harvest Christian Center; he gave himself to the Lord in 2015.
Herb had a strong passion for floor installation and other aspects of carpentry. He was employed at Battle Creek Tile and Mosaic for over 20 years. His work can be found across the city of Battle Creek. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. Herb was the go to guy for everything. If he did not know how to fix it he knew someone who would. You could call him no matter the hour and he would be there for you. He was truly the heart and soul of our family and the backbone for so many others. His one of a kind sense of humor always lifted our spirits.
He is survived by his daughters Fetina Hopkins of Battle Creek, MI, Chaqueta Hopkins of Clarksville, TN, Marquita Gibson of Indianola, MS, Carlisha “Terrell” Wallace of Clarksville, TN, and Patrice Smith of Battle Creek, MI. He assisted in raising Aquala Boykins, Rashana Boykins, Ricardo Boykins, Clayton Sims and Domonique Sims. He was also survived by 1 brother Tom Smith of Bellwood, IL, 7 sisters Helen Anderson of Battle Creek, MI, Katie “Laron” Fullerton of Battle Creek, MI, Lillie Harrington of Chicago, IL, Doris Stevenson of Jersey City, NJ, Julia Briscoe of Bellwood, IL, Rosie Smith of Bellwood, IL, and Ella Powell of Battle Creek, MI, 10 grandchildren a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, and special friend Louanne Miller.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Tom and Louise Smith, son Hervia Lee Smith Jr., 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
