James Eugene Schaeffer, 75, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away from a long battle with dementia & alzheimers on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at The Manor of Battle Creek. He was born January 6, 1937 the son of Ralph Brunt Schaeffer and Barbara (Stewart) Schaeffer. He was a descendant of Sands McCamly.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He joined the Air National Guard in his senior year of high school. He worked full time in the Guard for 13 years as an electronic tech. He has also worked for Michigan Bell, Electronic Supply and Michigan Magnetics in Vermontville.
James is survived by a Son from his first marriage to Janet Moss: James E. Schaeffer Jr.; Children from his second marriage to Nancy (Haney) Snyder who survives: Michael James, Gregory Ralph & Richard Mark Schaeffer and Connie Sue (Troy) Masengale all of Battle Creek, MI; Grandchildren: Jennifer (Derek) Allar of Texas, Jessica Swaim, Stephanie Masengale, Cheyenne, Bethany and Taylor Schaeffer all of Battle Creek, MI; Great grandchildren: Ethan, Keirah and Aryanna Allar, Sofia and Leila Swaim; Brother: Bill (Carol) Schaeffer of Union City, MI; Sisters: Julie Kroon of Cumberland, KY, Linda Martin of Wildwood, FL, Sallie (Ken) Goodman of Kalamazoo MI; Sister-in-law: Dorothy Schaeffer of Ceresco, MI and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and Brother: Kenneth Schaeffer.
Jim enjoyed singing and playing guitar.
A private family gathering will be held.
