Obituary for Janet M. Marshall (Smith)

Janet Marie Marshall, was born on August 8, 1943 to the union of Fred and Cornelis Smith, in Battle Creek, Michigan. As a young child she attended the Battle Creek Public schools, upon graduation in 1961 she decided to further her education in the field of nursing, and became an (LPN) Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at the Veterans Administration hospital and other facilities. Janet was blessed to have in her life a loving aunt and uncle, Supt. and Mrs. Curtis Jefferson who played a vital role in her life, teaching her Godly principles, family and home living, and to have love for all mankind. She was gifted in playing the accordion. Janet loved God, life, family, dealing with children, grand children, music, traveling, looking great, neatness and cleanliness. She was able to attend her 50th class reunion in 2011. She loved to go shopping at any thrift store in or out of town. She would be so glad to show you her new out-fit for any occasion.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Jim; daughter, Stephanie of Chicago; son, Sherman Duane of Battle Creek; mother-in-law, Nadine Watson; granddaughters, Amanda Marshall, Taylor Lowe, Alysia Gorum, Terricka Gorum; grandson, J.T. Marshall; sister-friend, Annie (Hooper) Smith will always remember the many exciting and memorable times and places shared and spent together, especially fishing. Close relative and friend Arlene Kennedy was just glad to be there whenever Janet called upon her. She was preceded in death by grandson, Sherman D. Gorum, II, and mother, Cornelis Peoples. We all have precious memories of Janet to sustain and remind us of her presence here with us. We will miss you Janet-“See you in the morning.”

In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. She passionately pursued the path to the Church of God, through Jesus Christ. As is, there will be no customary services. Her joy would be that family and friends would take a moment to share with each other, the good times you had with her in life. Thank you for kind words, thoughts and pray for yourselves as well as you do others.
