Obituary for John Henry "Jack" Kurtzman

John "Jack" Henry Kurtzman, 92, of Battle Creek, MI, died, Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. He was born March 21, 1920 the son of John and Lena (Webber) Kurtzman.
John was a 1938 graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit, MI. He then attended art school in Detroit, MI. He served in the US Army during WWII and served 3 years in the 88th infantry division where he received a Purple Heart. He was employed at Cello-Foil Products in the art department and then was a security guard at Community Hospital until retiring.
John is survived by Wife of 66 Years: Margaret Kurtzman of Battle Creek, MI; Daughter: Linda (Sam) Walden of Battle Creek, MI; Sons: John (Carmen) Kurtzman of Wildwood, MO and Randy (Barbara) Kurtzman of Bellevue, MI; 10 Grandchildren: Christopher, Andrew, Samantha, Cameron, Tayler, Alecia, James, Morgan, Randi and Peri; 2 Great Grandchildren: Gracie and Tristen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John enjoyed fishing, telling jokes, and airplanes and loved his dogs. John was a past commander of the American Legion Post #54, past chef DeGare of Voiture #181 40et8. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 110, VFW Post #4075 and DAV Post #7.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
A funeral service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Tim Smothers of the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility officiating.
Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
Memorial tributes may be made to the Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
