Obituary for Loistine Washington Sain

Loistine Washington-Sain,

age 72, of Battle Creek, MI, was called home on Friday, November 1, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on July 12, 1941 the daughter of Lillian Hicks and Otha Wilson. Loistine was a 1958 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. After graduation she earned an LPN Certificate and was employed with the Battle Creek Sanitarium Hospital for 25 years. She was promoted to become Community Hospital’s first African American Manager of the Sterile Processing Department. She retired in 1990, and went on to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources and Accounting at Spring Arbor University. She was a member of the Board of Directors at Omni Credit Untion, an active supporter of the Lakeview High School athletics, Neighborhood Watch where she served on the Substance Abuse Awareness Council. She also performed in the Kellogg Community College Eclectic Chorale. Loistine loved attending her children and grandchildren’s events, knitting, reading, shopping, and traveling. Her house was home to many, and holds memories that will last a lifetime. Such as, Christmases, card nights, amazing meals, and a spontaneous water fight that she initiated. Loistine was undeniable a phenomenal woman.

Her legacy lives on with her mother, Lillian; siblings, D’wayne, Arister, Bonita, Fiona, Earl, Paul, Jeffrey; children, Angela, Monique (James), Sean (Rhonda), Chelsea, Corey, Cameron; aunt, Pauline; grandchildren, Brittney, RJ, Angela, Anthony, Devan, Calissa, Reese; a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

The family welcomes friends to the viewing from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service. Funeral services will take place on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Reese Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
