Obituary for Maddux Anthony Thomas Hescock

Maddux Anthony Thomas Hescock
Maddux Anthony Thomas Hescock passed away on May 28, 2016, following a long fight with cancer.
Although Maddux’s days were cut far too short by illness, the fullness of his life and personality could not
be hindered by anything. Kind, caring, compassionate, loving, strong, brave, funny, sweet, there are so
many words like these that the people who knew Maddux would use to describe him. He was a young
man of abundant interests and wonderful qualities.
Maddux was born on May 24, 2007 in Portland, Oregon and moved to Michigan six months later, which
prompted him to refer to himself as a “Michegonian” in his later years. He was never at a loss for words
or jokes and often had his own wellarticulated
opinion on most things.
Maddux’s life was filled with love, both the love others had for him and the love he had for other people
and things. He loved playing Legos, video games, swimming, and Star Wars. He loved being in his
backyard where he would run around with his dogs, play soccer and baseball, swing, and hang out in his
treehouse. But the love Maddux had for other people is one of the things that defines him most. He
cared for his family and friends so much. Even during his battle with cancer, he still took the time to ask
“How are you doing?” or say “I’m sorry you’re not feeling well”. His kind nature left a lasting impression
on those that met him.
Maddux’s sense of humor served him well during his illness. He never lost his happy nature and usually
had a joke ready for the nurses and doctors who cared for him. He loved spending time laughing and
being silly, even when he was stuck spending his days in the hospital. He had the sweetest smile and
laugh and a twinkle in his eyes that told you of the immense joy in his heart.
Maddux attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with his parents where he learned about the
bible. He loved to give comments during meetings and help clean the hall afterwards. He was cared for
and nurtured by his spiritual family for the entirety of his life.
Maddux attended Fremont Elementary School where he made many friends of student and staff alike
who continued to support him during his illness. It was his Fremont family.
Maddux is survived by his loving parents, Josiah and Stacie Hescock of Battle Creek, Michigan; paternal
grandparents Michael and Elizabeth Hescock of Battle Creek, Michigan; paternal greatgrandparents
Duane and Charlene Young of Battle Creek, Michigan; maternal grandparents Tom and Beth Culp of
Portage, Indiana; maternal greatgrandfather
Homer Gayhart of Portage, Indiana; aunt Jessica (Aram)
Sparks of Kalamazoo, Michigan; uncle Joshua Hescock of Battle Creek, Michigan; uncle Jason
(Vanessa) Hescock of Manchester, Missouri; uncle Andrew Culp of Portage, Indiana; and cousins Vivien
Hescock and Adlai, Jonah, and Charlie Sparks.
He was predeceased by his Gigi, his greatgrandmother
Louise Gayhart of Portage, Indiana.
