Martha Frances Ballard, age 75, went to Heaven the morning of Tuesday, September 10, 2013, after a short illness. She was born September 9, 1938, to Thomas Earl Ballard and Lola Sue (Gambill) Ballard. Martha graduated from New Buffalo High School, Lake Michigan College, and Central Michigan University. She went on to teach at Wayland Union Schools in Wayland, Michigan for 32 years. Upon retiring she moved to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee with her beloved companion Dame Agatha “Aggie” her West Highland Terrier. Martha was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. She served as the latest historian of the Crab-Orchard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a past regent of that chapter as well. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Martha loved traveling the world with friends and family whenever she could.

Martha is survived by her sister, Debbie (Derek) Ruth of Saint Joseph; brothers, Zan (Joyce) Ballard of Benton Harbor, Ronn (Sharon) Ballard of Saint Joseph, Carl (Jackie) Ballard of Lexington, North Carolina and Roger Ballard (Jim Eldridge) of Battle Creek; several nieces & nephews whom she loved and cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Laura Faye Ballard; her sister of such a short time, Lois Nadine Ballard; and her loving devoted companion, Aggie, who passed away about six weeks prior to Martha’s passing. Martha will be cremated, and her ashes, along with Aggie’s will be laid to rest at Crossville City Cemetery, Tennessee. There will be a small memorial service held for Martha’s family and close friends of Roger’s at Christ United Methodist Church, 65 Bedford Road North, Battle Creek, MI.
