Obituary for Richard Hiram McGregor

Richard Hiram McGregor age 82 of Battle Creek passed away on December 31, 2014 at his home in the loving care of his family. Richard, who everyone called Dick, was born January 12, 1932 to Hiram and Dolly McGregor.
Dick went through the 8th grade and then started working to help out his family. At the age of 56 he received his GED Diploma. Dick enlisted into the US Army at the age of 19 and served his country from 1951 through 1954, where he saw many countries.
On April 6, 1953 he married the love of his life, Esther Mae Lleywellyn in Angola, Indiana. Dick was employed for 30 years at Clark Equipment Co. as a machinist and a union steward, he retired in 1987. Dick worked at several places from Eaton Corporation, Kendall’s Tractor Supply, and Walker Muffler.
Dick had a great love for his family and friends, and was always eager to help. He was a handyman and could fix anything, everyone knew that he was the go to guy, if he didn’t know how to do something he would do some research and make it happen. He did a great deal of remodeling on his home as well as his families homes. Dick enjoyed wood working, painting on canvas, and restoring antiques. He restored a 1955 T-Bird and a 1938 Desoto, he also restored old farm tractors back to their glory days.
Dick was a private pilot and loved to fly. Dick was a fun loving and caring person. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. He is survived by his two daughters Susan (Brian) Damerow, and Denise (Rodney) Olmstead; Granddaughters Melissa (William) Gwynne, Jennifer (Jason) Cortright; Great grandchildren Macy Jo and Madelyn Mae Gwynne, Boston Ronald and Nathan Richard Byers, Vincent and Faith Cortright, and Trenton Robertson; brother Jerry (Luann) McGregor and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Esther Mae McGregor, sister Iva Jean Wilson, brothers Robert and Wayne McGregor, Lee (Janice) McGregor, John (Barbara) McGregor, and nephew Rodney Wilson.
Cremation has taken place by his request. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens with David Ray officiating. Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, Grace Hospice in Kalamazoo, or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements made by Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service 375 W.
