Richard Martin Shafer, 93, of Galesburg, Michigan, died on Monday, July 28, 2014 at The Oaks at Northpointe Woods. He was born on May 18, 1921, the son of Lowell Wright Shafer and Elsie Belle (Branch) Shafer of Galesburg, MI.
Richard graduated from Galesburg Schools and then served in the US Army During WWII. He worked many years at Gibson Guitar in Kalamazoo. He retired from Eaton Mfg. in 1983.
Richard is survived by his Sons: David (Lora) Shafer and Alan (Sue) Shafer; Grandchildren: Keith (Marcy) Shafer and Greg (Jodine) Shafer; Great-grandchildren: Brooke, Brandi and Trent. He was preceded in death by his Parents; First Wife: Maxine (Griffin) Shafer and Second Wife: Beulah Cucuro-Shafer.
Richard enjoyed golf, camping, canoeing, playing the organ, and was a faithful member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and had been active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 2 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 3PM.
