Obituary for Sandra Kay Williams (Holmes)

Sandra Kay (Holmes) Williams was born April 16, 1957 in Battle Creek, MI to the late Willie and Louise (Henderson) Holmes. Sandra transitioned from this life on April 21, 2014 in Bronson Hospital of Battle Creek, after a 1 year battle with cancer.

Sandra was raised in Battle Creek and educated in Battle Creek Public Schools and Kellogg Community College for nursing. On February 17, 1974, Sandra was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. LeRoy Williams and remained married to him until his passing. To this union was born two daughters and one son. Sandra was employed at the V.A. Medical Center, and was later a Care Giver for many years. Sandra received Christ at an early age at Full Gospel Deliverance Center and was a member of Bright Star Faith Temple Church both under the Pastorate of Rev. C.M. Pettis. Sandra later joined the Greater New Life Ministries Church under the leadership of her sister Pastor Mary L. Andrews where she served on the Usher Board and the Hospitality Committee until her passing. Sandra loved traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and playing cards. Most of all, Sandra loved playing chess, and was called the "Chess Queen."

Sandra was preceded in death by both of her parents, Willie and Louise Holmes; brother, Garcia Holmes; great-grandchild, LaVonte Brown.

Sandra leaves to cherish her memories; two daughters, LaTrina Williams of Bakersfield, CA., Shantina (LaVertis, Sr.) Brown; son, Leroy Williams III of Battle Creek; brothers, Frank Tatum, Alvin Holmes, Willie (Jackie) Holmes, Anthony Holmes, and Robbie Patton; sisters, Mary (Huey) Andrews, Willie Mae Holmes, Beverly (Dwight) Scott and Rochelle Patton; grandchildren, Sharniece Williams, Shantel Kindred, Shaguail Kindred, LeVertis Brown Jr., Charnay Franklin, Talea Franklin, Shamiya Kindred, Shantiana Kindred, LaQuez Brown, Derrick Brown, TaLeigha Brown, Ta'Nia Brown, Isaiah Williams, TayShawn Brown; one great-grandchild, Jewell Jones; aunties, Ann Liggins, Jeannette Bowser, Essie Mae Hodges, Eula V. Cox, Sylvia Henderson, Ida Mae Henderson; special sisters, Lori West, Annette Williams, Regina Powell, Teresa Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
