Shirley May Bechtol, 85, of Battle Creek, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Tender Care Marshall. She was born on April 3, 1930, the daughter of Earl Guy Spencer and Leah (Williams) Spencer.
Shirley is survived by her Husband of 67 years: Arthur Leroy Bechtol of Battle Creek, MI; Sons: David (Nancy) Bechtol of Chicago, IL and Paul Bechtol of Battle Creek, MI; Daughters: Linda (Glen) Stevens of Radcliff, KY and Shirley Crawford of Battle Creek, MI; Grandchildren: Heidi (Devin) Boyce, Elisabeth Stevens, Sarah (Louis) Schierbaum and Misty Crawford; Great-Grandchildren: Alissa, Andrew, Ariana, Austin, Kevin, Louis, Jimmy & Aurora. She was preceded in death by her Parents; her Sister: Madeline Strong; Brothers: Leonard Spencer, Earnest Spencer, Eugene Spencer and Earl Spencer; Daughter-in-law: Glenda Bechtol.
Shirley enjoyed traveling, camping, reading, singing, crocheting, playing Euchre, watching birds, playing the piano and she played at several area nursing homes. She was member of the Convis United Methodist Church where she played the piano and organ for over 30 years and served as Junior Choir director. She formerly served as PTA president at Harper Creek Schools and a Blue Bird Girl Scout leader at Level Park School. She also was a member of the Area Metropolitan Club.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Thursday May 7, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
A funeral service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 1 pm with Rev. Larry Rubingh.
Interment will take place in the North Athens Cemetery.
