Obituary for Thomas Norman Carl

Thomas Norman Carl passed away peacefully on June 25, 2013 surrounded by family. He was born July 1, 1940, the son of Pauline (Morrison) and Thomas L. Carl. He attended Pennfield High School. Thomas was employed with Kellogg Company where he retired after 35 years. After retirement, he worked part-time with Napa and Seelye Wright Auto Group.

He enjoyed fishing trips, hunting at his niece’s tree farm, camping at the “lot”, many motorcycle trips, and car shows with his Model A. He was involved in several clubs: Ford Model A club, Northside Snowmobile club, and was part of the Kellogg Co. 25 year club. He was very involved with Emmett Township serving as a firefighter from 1959 until present, their Rescue Squad, and Auxiliary Police Officer. He was also a Union Officer of the Mechanical Division of American Federation – Grain Miller Local #3 and President of Fairfax Improvement Association. He coached Pizza Sam’s girls floor hockey team for roughly 15 years and his sons baseball team for many years. Thomas also enjoyed racing Stock Cars and played on Kellogg’s softball team. He was very proud of his Model A, Model T, and ’56 Chevy. Most of all, he loved being a Papa, and was very good at it.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Darlene; daughter, Renee (Richard) Reeves; daughter-in-law, Kathy Carl; mother, Pauline Carl; brothers, Jim (Nancy) Carl, Donald Carl, Ronald (Brenda) Carl, Rodney (Pat) Carl; sister, Diane Tanner; sister-in-law, Dolly Carl; grandchildren, Melissa (James) Fields, Ashley Carl, Joshua Carl, Abby Reeves, Libby Reeves, Jacob Reeves, Eli Reeves; great-grandchildren, James Fields III, Tory Fields; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas L. Carl; son, Ricky L. Carl; and brother, William M. Carl, Sr.

Family will receive friends at Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 6:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral services take place on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 11:00am at Baxter Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence.
