Robert Earl McNair transitioned this life on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Robert was born August 31, 1955 to the union of James McNair and Beatrice Malone.

Robert was educated in the Battle Creek Public School system. Following graduation from Battle Creek Central High School in 1973, Robert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

After an honorable discharge from the military, Robert was gainfully employed with several companies (Kellogg's, Eaton, UPS, VA, and the United States Postal Service). He retired from the Postal Service in 2010 as a Postmaster, after 35 years of employment.

Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized on the profession of his faith. He was an active member of the Unity Baptist Church.

Robert was a " people person". As a result of his outgoing nature and jovial demeanor, he never met a stranger. He was committed to family and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was also quire the fashionista...everything (the outfit and the shoes) was color coordinated and matching.

Robert was survived by his wife of 38 years, Shirley McNair, one daughter, Shylandia of Denver, CO, four sons, Kevens and Eric of Battle Creek, MI, Shaun/Slice (Angie) of Fort Wayne, IN, and Robert of Denver, CO, 15 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, one sister, Ann Williams (Frank) of White Plains, NY, 3 aunts, Dorothy Williams (Killeen, TX), Clarice Harris (Romulus, MI) and Lucille Lee (Bernard) of Natchez, MS, and a host of nieces. nephew, cousins and friends.

Robert McNair was one of the nicest guys I graduated with. Never boisterous, never needing to be seen. Shirley what a blessing to know a couple who have stood the test of time, love and supported each other. I am so sorry for you and your families lost. May God continue to comfort and keep you. The people and friends of yours in Battle Creek are here for you. God bless you and yours.

My condolences and prayers to the family. I can remember Robert with a smile on his face exactly like in his picture and I know he loved his family to the moon and back. Growing up Lennard and I couldn't sit still and Robert always has words of wisdom to share. He knew when we were doing right as well as when we were doing wrong. He would also let us know. Robert could read us very well and had a calming spirit. RIP Big Bro.

Shirley and family; Please accept my heartfelt condolences at the passing of your dear Robert. At the post office, he was bigger than life, full of charm and exuberance. He loved his work, and he loved his fellow workmates. I remember sitting next to him at the Breslin Arena at Michigan State, as the Bearcats played Detroit Country Day for the state championship. He knew more about college basketball than anyone I knew, which included most current player's stats and skill levels. It was a joy working along side Robert all those years, and recently during retirement dinners and breakfasts. He always wanted to know what everyone was up to, and eager to share stories that would bring smiles to our faces. Oh, and by the way, not everyone knows it, but Robert Earl could do a perfect impersonation of Little Richard. I will miss his smiling face, as well as his gracious persona.
