Tonya Marie Nichols, born November 29, 1966 to Marjorie Jean Nichols and Charles Gray, went to be home with the Lord Saturday, March 23, 2019.

She attended Battle Creek Public Schools and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1985. She worked numerous factory jobs and was a manager at Burger King on North Avenue for several years. With her creative Spirit, Tonya began making candles from scratch. She made and sold her candles in all colors and scents.

Tonya’s favorite thing to do was to barbeque and have cookouts with family and friends. It did not matter what the weather was. She would be outside barbequing. She was also the neighborhood mother. She would give the shirt off her back if you needed it.

Tonya leaves to cherish her Mother, Marjorie Nichols; She was married to Damon Palmer. That marriage produced two beautiful girls: MarKeeta Haddley and Danesha Palmer; Her Sister, Rochelle Hickman; Nephews, Dominque (Shamiyha) Hickman; Keylin Hickman, Deonte’ Hickman; great Nieces, Kinzley Hickman and Ameelia Hickman, and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her Dad, Charles Gray; Grandmother, Roberta Johnson; and Uncle, Charles Johnson.

There will be a private ceremony on Friday for immediate family.

Any flowers that are sent to the family, may be delivered to the funeral home.

I am writing this to give you my condolence and share with you an encouraging promise from the Bible.

The Bible promise us at Acts 24:15: “that there is going to be a resurrection”. God will soon bring back all of our dead loved ones. And not only will He bring the dead back but Job 14:15 tells us that he longs to do so. Jehovah God did not purpose for man to live a short time then die. In fact, the Bible at 1 Corinthians 15:26 refers to death as “the last enemy”. So God hates death and it pains him to see us lose our dead loved ones. But very soon Jehovah will undue all the pain that death causes and will bring our dead loved ones back to life.

I hope these scriptures have brought you and your family some comfort during this difficult time.

To my 2nd family, The Nichols. I am so lost for words. I have known Tonya for practically all of my life. She was like an older sister to me. Rochelle was so kind to share her with all of the kids on Northside Dr. She bossed us all (LOL). You have my prayers, John's prayers and the entire Hinds Family's prayers. Tonya's smile and laugh will be missed. God bless you all and be sure to keep the faith. Know that God makes no mistakes and know that Tonya is no longer in pain. Love you all!!
